Je suis un artiste visuel qui utilise la photographie comme plateforme de jeu, d'expression, et comme générateur de surprise. J'aime voir les choses pour la première fois. Je joue avec la capacité qu'a la photographie de révéler ce qui se dérobe à l'oeil: le mouvement, l'émotion psychique, l'essence intérieur des choses. Je m’intéresse à la représentation d’espaces de projection et aux expériences d’exploration au sens large. Je considère ces espaces qui émergent de mes jeux de lumière comme des paysages. Les notions de territoire, de frontière, d’échelle, de nature sont des éléments qui permettent de situer mon approche et de me positionner par rapport au champs de l’art. Ce qui compte c’est que tout soit en mouvement, que tout se transforme même les règle du jeu. À travers ma recherche je cherche constamment à renouveler ce même émerveillement qui survint il y a vingt ans, quand la découverte du médium photographique me dérouta de mon projet de devenir peintre.
Samuel Choisy (b. 1974, France) is a visual artist working with photography as a playful way to engage with the body and the mind . His work explores the notion of mental territory through different projects and formal approaches always seeking surprise. His time-based creative process presents visual recordings of choreographed or improvised situations occuring only for the camera . His latest photographs combine dance, performance and light works. Choisy received a DNAP from l'École de l'Image d'Angoulême (1999) and a DNSEP from l'École des Beaux-Arts de Nantes (2001). He is the recipient of the Chamlers Arts Fellowship (2016) and 4 other grants form the Ontario Arts Council. His work has been showcased and published in France and many European countries, as well as in the U.S. and Canada. He currently lives, works and plays with gratitude on the territories of the Wendat, Anashinabek Nation, Haudenosaunee Confederacy, And Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nations.
